Spec-R
Founded by myself Peter Fulke-Greville in the early nineties
However my interest in motorsport goes a lot further back, as a child I spent just about every weekend with my father at famous race circuits such as Silverstone, Thruxton, Brandshatch and Mallory park where he was a motor racing official/observer, a lifetime member of the BARC and also the founder of the Motor Racing Officials Registrar with Stirling Moss the president. My Father also competed at circuits such as the Brooklands (brick yard) race circuit.
I was always left to my own devises and subsequently spent most of my time rubbing shoulders with the people that my father mixed with in that era, such as Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham, John Surtees, Graham Hill and my own age at that time Damon Hill. This is where I got my interest in cars in both road and race form and family owned classic and thoroughbred cars such as Donald Healy’s 100A Healey, Facel Vega, ’57 Ford Thunderbird, Lotus Cortina and Jaguars sparked my interest even further.
It was in our family blood and has been ever since, so it was inevitable that one day I would have something to do with motorsport and having spent most of my life in and around race cars, engine bays and engineering both in the UK and Canada as well as competing in national championships over a few years in my own MK1 Broadspeed Capri it was the natural path to take.
Spec-R is my creation and I have designed and manufactured everything we do, without the need to copy anybody which is far too easy for people to do these days and as sad as it seems to have become the norm.
Spec-R is proud to be old school and gives customers what they want not just what they can get hold of and without these loyal customers of mine I wouldn’t be here.
Since founding Spec-R we have made a foothold in the Cosworth market, in our first decade manufacturing header tanks, oil breather/separators, radiators and lots of shiny products. Attention to detail and the quality of finished products has always been our main objective and has made us very well known and respected.
The name got around and we probably have had the best engine bays in the UK, have won many awards including ‘best in show’ and trade stand awards, numerous front cover cars and exhibited for many years at Autosport international (NEC), this has made me very proud to be associated with all concerned.
In the first ten years we manufactured mainly alloy components for the fast road market and the icing on the cake was being the supplier to Brooklyn Ford in Redditch (We had in last year ‘’Chris Hodgetts’’ Brooklyn Ford classic RS500, which had come out of retirement for Spec-R Intercooler, Radiator, Oil breathers, Header tank etc and is now competing in various championships.)Suppliers also to Halfords, Ripspeed, Ford SUHE motorsport in Germany and many other well known trade names. WE have also manufactured dry sump tanks for various numbers of historic Surtees F1 cars, parts for Dave Appleby Metro 6R4’s Radiator and tanks for Mark Bailey Motorsport SR2 Sports Racing cars, Radiators for Swift Cooper Racing formula Fords, parts for Rover Heritage for the ST Mini, various parts for Andy Vey Subaru (Formerly Triton Motorsport, Power engineering, Severn valley motorsport, Amber performance, E.A.R.S Motorsport and these are to name just a few.
Then moving on nearly another decade still with motor racing parts to manufacture of one kind or another our fast road market has always been our bread and butter spanning from the early Ford RS500 & Sierra Cosworth, Escort Cosworth, Mitsubushi Lancer Evolutions, Subaru’s and Nissans to the more modern Lancer Evolutions and Ford Focus RS MK2, where over the last three years we have made another foothold in the market not just with our tanks including our famous sightglass but the radiator and intercooler market too, with our products out performing all of our competitors.
With that in mind we now supply some of the country’s top end tuners such as M.A. Developments for the Cosworth and Mitsubushi market (Builder of the 206.1MPH record breaking Sapphire Cosworth of Rod Tarry), Hart power with their Dyno cell and YB engines, Julian Godfrey motorsport engineering on their supercar rallycross engines (Julian is now the British rallycross champion 2011/2012 and Grand Prix champion running with our intercooler, radiator and header tank c/w sightglass.)And we are proud to be one of his sponsors, Julian has also built the engines for the mighty Citroen DS3 & DS3/4 of Liam and Pat Doran and the RS200 Pikes Peak race car which we also built the radiators and intercoolers for.
We also sponsor Dave Jackson for the second year, 2011 Escort Cosworth, 2012/2013 Cosworth YB Focus running Spec-R Intercoolers, Radiators etc in the time attack series along with SiTECH racing’s Focus RS MK2, Minicrafts R53/56 Mini and now we have cars that will be competing in the Quaife/Motoring news championship for 2013. The list goes on with many fast road cars and historic racers such as the Frazer Nash of Mike Gibbs Esq. (whose company, MGA Developments, was involved in the design of the Escort Cosworth).
Who knows what 2013 will bring for Spec-R but we will keep you posted with our news updates as it happens.
Thank you to ALL our Customers Past & Present for your support,
Your Sincerely
